Live Performance Guidelines

Looking to perform on the Open Street this season?

Please read below to get a sense of what to expect:

  • We dedicate every fourth Saturday of the month to live performances.

  • Performances will be limited in duration:

    • Performances should last no more than 30 minutes;

    • A 30-minute break between sets is required, with no loud sound of any sort allowed during breaks;

    • The total duration of events should not exceed 3 hours or 75 decibels, or the sound of a loud vacuum nearby.

    • There is no readily available power source on the Open Street, and gas-powered generators are not allowed. That said, occasionally local businesses allow an extension cord; the programmer, however, would be responsible for contacting the business beforehand. Battery-powered speakers are preferred.

    • The Collective will procure and pay for the noise permit with the local precinct. But live acts must notify the surrounding neighborhood at least five days beforehand of the concert through posted signage, on street poles and in residential buildings. This is also a good opportunity to tell folks about the show!

    • During all amplified sound events, a dedicated member of the 31st Ave Open Street Collective will be present to ensure compliance and offer assistance. We ask all performers to play towards the middle of the street, rather than directly facing buildings. That helps us mitigate noise to our neighbors.

And that’s it!

We crafted these guidelines after extensive discussions with local residents and business owners, in order to create an Open Street that works for everyone. Failure to abide by them could endanger your ability to host another event on the street in the future. But let’s work to not get to that point!
