February 2025 Update

A view of the 31st Ave Bike Boulevard in January.

Greetings from our mid-winter hibernation!

As a reminder, the Open Street is off from January to April, while our volunteer group takes a much-needed break and we look forward to the next season (and warmer temperatures!).

But we’re staying busy! Here are a few things we’re working on:

  • Securing our permit for 2025 markets;

  • Finalizing forms for events and programming;

  • Applying to new funding opportunities;

  • Prepping for Phase II of the 31st Ave redesign (31st St. to Steinway);

  • Getting amped for another great year!

The off-season is also a time for us to recalibrate and figure out ways to constantly improve. We do that, in part, by listening to folks like you!

So if you volunteered this last season, we’re inviting you to take a brief volunteer survey. It’ll help us understand how to engage more people on the street! Fill out here.

As we look forward to the next year, it’s worth quickly reflecting on this past one. So we crunched the numbers and did the math!

Here’s our 2024 season in review:

  • The 31st Ave Open Street operated for 70 days in 2024, with only three cancellations. Much better than the rainy 2023!

  • We hosted 170 events, with 140 unique programs organized by 99 programming partners. And they were all free!

  • Breaking a new record, we held 26 markets in 2024. We’re gonna try to beat that in 2025!

  • Our numbers have grown! Last season, 68 volunteers signed up for a total of 754 shifts. That’s 803 volunteering hours in total. And we have some VIPs: 13 people signed up for 10+ shifts throughout the season. Bravo!

  • About 107 people submitted forms to host events on the street, and about 424 vendors joined our market database. That’s more than 500 people interacting with the street on a regular basis!

We’ll be back in March with more updates, as the 2025 season inches closer. Stay tuned—and stay warm!
